Akse Chemicals manufactures two distinct types of ballast holding resins, specifically formulated for retaining ballast in place.
These materials are manufactured in prime 2 component aromatic polyurethane systems and are available as either a capping system or an encapsulation system.
Ballast Capping Resin -BCR , is available as a high viscosity system specifically designed to hold ballast shot or ballast punchings in place during the life of a vessel, crane or piece of equipment.
The ballast is placed in location in a compartment or tray and an activated resin is poured in situ in 2 phases. The first phase allows the resin to permeate the ballast , while the second phase creates a solid cap and binds to the compartment wall. This allows a compartment floor which can be walked and worked on over the ballast layer once cured.
Ballast Encapsulation Resin – BER is premixed with the ballast and either poured in to a specific shape or poured into location as a slurry / mix. This system requires the use of a mixing system such as a forced action mixer.
Both systems are manufactured with fire retardants in line with IMO requirements.
